Planning Your Day
In wedding planning, you're faced with so many what ifs, so many 'oh yeah, that', decision after decision. It can feel absolutely suffocating. There's so many moving parts, opinions, and discussions to be had that you might be a little under water. So while you breathe for a moment, here's some help.
One thing at a time
Instead of all the decisions in tandem, write down the you need to make in order and leave them alone until you're ready. Example:
First decision: Wedding Date
Second decision: Location
Third decision: Wedding Party
Fourth decision: Guest List
And so on.
Ensure the decisions are in an order that works for you and your partner, and don't jump ahead! Flowers do not have to be decided before you have a place to put them and you definitely need a location before you invite 200+ people.
Hire a Planner
Still overwhelmed? Get someone who loves these details and decisions. Planners can be with you the whole time or just when you need them the most. With industry experience, they'll know what decisions need to be made and when, what the guest experience will look like, and the calmest route to the wedding of your dreams. Some planners even communicate with your vendors for you to make it even less stressful!
Leave other voices out of it
You love your friends and family. But your wedding day is not theirs. Well meaning voices can still be overwhelming, and just because something is right for them doesn't mean it's right for you and your partner. If family and friends being 100% involved in the process works for you, great! If not, sit mom/grandma down and gently let them know that these decisions are between you and your future spouse. State that you just want your family and friends to enjoy the day and not stress about details.
Turn the screens off
In a world of 24/7 access to just about anything, you can scroll through every wedding website and make all the wedding boards in the world. But what really matters? Your wedding isn't Pinterest, it's you and your partner. So, turn the phone/laptop off and sit with your partner and a notebook. What does your wedding feel like when you think about it? What's your wildest dream for your big day? Write those down and use that as your inspiration. Anyone can have a wedding they see online, but only you and your partner know the best and truest avenue for your special day.
Even with the decisions and worry, your wedding day will be a beautiful celebration of love and togetherness. Whether it's in front of everyone you know or just an officiant and a photographer, you deserve the wedding of your dreams.
